Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report early analysis show the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
