Government Official States Ministry of Defence Examining Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Staff Told to Refrain from Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense minister has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is currently investigating the potential security risks associated with Chinese-made vehicles, and personnel have been told to refrain from talking about classified matters in any vehicles.

Safety Guidance for Defence Staff

In a recent appearance on a radio station, Luke Pollard addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to discuss secret material while riding in Chinese vehicles.

The minister explained that the MoD is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but emphasised that security is a concern in every modern cars.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a very small number.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their car, to avoid having conversations at a secret level in any vehicle, due to the growing threats of surveillance that exist in all vehicle, to restrict those confidential conversations in secure locations. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about security.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to stop using every Chinese vehicles, the minister responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Security Background

The revelation comes as claims from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use kill switches in Chinese buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off buses and cause chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russian intelligence vessel was reportedly shining laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, described as a “extremely risky” act by government representatives.

The broader defence environment underscores the significance of robust measures and vigilance in all areas of government activities, from transport use to communication habits.
